MABNA P‑R‑17 Concrete Superplasticizer is used to enhance concrete workability either at the batching plant or at the project site.

With set‑retarding and slump‑retention characteristics tailored for hot‑season concreting, it is an excellent choice for reducing the water‑to‑cement ratio in tropical and hot‑climate regions.

It also increases concrete strength (typically up to the 35 MPa grade) and enables the development of economical mix designs during summer.

This product belongs to the third generation of advanced admixtures, formulated on modified polycarboxylates, which deliver:

  • Significant reduction in mixing water,
  • Increased flowability,
  • Retention of concrete workability for extended durations (typically 1 – 4 hours).

MABNA P‑R‑16 is engineered for producing:

  • High‑Performance Concrete (HPC)
  • High‑Strength Concrete (HSC)
  • Self‑Compacting Concrete (SCC)
  • Durable, low‑permeability concretes
  • Main Applications

    • Production of high‑strength concrete at batching plants.
    • Long‑distance transportation of concrete in hot weather (up to approximately 2 hours).
    • Production of Self‑Compacting Concrete (SCC).
    • Concreting in very large sections where significant placing time is required.
    • Concreting in thin sections with congested reinforcement.
    • Increasing 3‑day and 7‑day compressive strength compared to mixes without superplasticizer.
    • Manufacture of concrete using crushed aggregate.
    • Casting of slabs, foundations, columns, walls, bridges, and similar structural elements.
    • Advantages

      • Reduces the water‑to‑cement ratio, increasing compressive strength and durability of concrete.
      • Maintains slump and workability for 1 to 4 hours (depending on conditions).
      • Minimizes shrinkage and thermal cracking.
      • Reduces permeability to water, chloride ions, and sulfates.
      • Improves abrasion resistance and durability against freeze‑thaw cycles.
      • Prevents bleeding and segregation.
      • Allows reduction of cement content by approximately 10% to 20% (depending on materials and mix design) without compromising strength.
      • Compatible with supplementary cementitious materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and slag.
      • Suitable for concreting in hot climates and for mixes requiring long transport times.
      • Enhances cohesion and plastic viscosity in concrete.
      • Further decreases overall concrete permeability.
      • Does not delay long‑term compressive strength development.
      • Fully compatible with all types of Portland cement and pozzolanic materials such as silica fume.
      • Prevents cracking due to shrinkage and concrete contraction.
      • Eliminates cold joints in prolonged pouring operations.
  • Storage Conditions:

      • Shelf life: One year when stored in the original, unopened packaging under suitable conditions.
      • Recommended storage temperature: Between +5 °C and +35 °C.
      • Protection requirements: Keep away from frost and direct sunlight.
      • Packaging: Available in 20 kg plastic containers and 1000 kg IBC tanks.

Product Safety

  • This material is not classified as hazardous to health or the environment.

  • Avoid direct contact with eyes and ingestion.

  • In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.

  • If ingested, seek medical attention immediately.

  • This material is non-flammable.

  • Do not discharge into surface or groundwater; dispose of waste through a wastewater treatment facility.

Dosage

  • The recommended dosage range is 0.1% to 1% by weight of cement. Depending on the concrete mix design, higher dosages can deliver greater water‑reduction, improved flowability, and longer slump retention.
  • Example: For a mix containing 420 kg of cement per cubic metre and an initial slump of 3 cm, the addition of 2 kg/m³ of this admixture increased the slump to 18 cm. After one hour at 25 °C, slump was 14 cm — indicating only a 3 cm loss in slump over 1 hour. The 7‑day compressive strength (cylindrical specimens) reached 41 MPa.
  • Naturally, variations in aggregate properties and environmental conditions will produce different results.
  • Method of Use

    1. Single‑Stage Addition at Mixing

Add the full required dosage of superplasticizer to the concrete during production.

For best performance, the admixture should be introduced after cement has been added to the mix.

In practice, if MABNA P‑R‑17 is first diluted with a portion of the mixing water before being added, it will disperse more effectively throughout the concrete, ensuring faster and more uniform action.

    2. Split Addition — Batching Plant and Site

Add part of the total required dosage of MABNA P‑R‑17 at the batching plant, and the remainder at the pour site.

This method is recommended for concreting with transport distances exceeding two hours in very hot weather.

In this approach, the initial addition at batching provides the necessary strength development, while the site addition is used solely to increase workability/slump so the concrete can be pumped and placed easily.
